Pancake Holsters
Duty holsters attach to a law enforcement officer's belt on the outside of his clothing. The duty holster is not meant to be concealed. It is typically large, boxy in shape and dark in color, so it stands out against the officer's clothing. Most duty holsters are made out of tough leather or nylon, though some may be composed of plastic.
On the other side of the coin, undercover officers may choose to use pancake holsters. This differs from the duty version in a number of ways. The back of the device is round and flat, like a pancake, so that it can fit right up against the body in a subtle way. It attaches to a belt through a series of two loops, with the back of the belt going across the back of the pancake piece. The pancake design normally does not cause chaffing or blistering when worn all day, due to its round, flat shape. Most of the handgun types used by law enforcement can fit inside a pancake holster, though they are not usually used with large handguns.
Duty Holsters and More
Concealment holsters normally have less retention than their duty counterparts. Concealed guns often need to be drawn quickly, as the element of surprise is important with a concealed weapon. This means a concealed gun will not be stored in a device that has flaps, snaps or magnetic closures. For handgun accessories of all kinds for law enforcement personnel, Aso Tactical is available.
