Leather Duty Holsters

A leather duty holster is often one of the first pieces of equipment an officer is issued upon joining the force. The leather duty holster is a basic piece of gear for most law enforcement agencies, as it is inexpensive and durable. It can come in many different designs, according to the need and preference of the officer. Some common varieties of leather duty holster include the pancake shape, paddle shape and the belt-slide design.

One of the most important characteristics of leather duty holsters is their visibility. These devices are worn on the outside of the clothing, clipped to the officer's belt. The gun can be clearly seen and accessible in an instant. Most leather duty holsters come with a flap or guard to cover the handle of the gun and to protect it from being snatched from the law enforcement officer during an altercation. The ease with which the gun can be removed from its pouch is called retention. Retention is expressed in levels, with level one being the lowest amount of retention. As the levels increase, the gun becomes more difficult to remove from the holster.

Leather Duty Holsters and Other Firearm Accessories

Most police officers prefer a level of retention around two or three. They need to get to their guns easily, but the guns must also be secure from thieves. Aso Tactical sells firearm accessories of all kinds and of all retention levels. Items can be shipped throughout the United States.
